Map Of Mostar Hotels

Most people who travel to Mostar instantly fall in love. It’s not hard to see why. The town is surrounded by green nature and stunning vistas, and the architecture takes you immediately back in time.

Of course, Mostar was one of the worst affected places for bombing during the Bosnian War. Thankfully, those troubled times are behind us, and Mostar today is a safe, vibrant tourist city.

The shadows of the past, however, do remain in certain parts of the town. It’s important to visit these areas and to learn about what happened. It’s a somber activity, but it’s a must. One of the most famous sights in Mostar is the Old Bridge, which was destroyed during the war but thankfully has since been restored to its former glory.

Top Sights To Visit In Mostar

Now that you’ve got your Mostar accommodation sorted, you need to get started on an itinerary of what to see in Mostar.

Ordering Coffee in Greece - All you need to know

Without a doubt, the bridge we’ve just mentioned should be your number one place to go. This is called Stari Most, usually referred to as the ‘Old Bridge.’ In typical Ottoman style, the Turks built the bridge way back in 1566, but it was destroyed during the war.

Happily, the international community wasn’t having any of that, and it was rebuilt and reopened in 2004, maintaining its original features and design. This is the symbol of the entire city, spanning over the mighty Neretva River.

Unsurprisingly, this bridge is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. It’s 21 meters high, and when you visit Mostar, you should wait a while and see if you notice anyone jumping from the bridge. Don’t worry; there’s nothing terrible going on. This is a regular occurrence by the Mostar Diving Club, and it’s a really great thing to see. If you do happen to catch it, make sure you tip the divers a little for their efforts; that water can be cold!

There is also a museum close to the bridge, giving you a bit more information on the history. In fact, Mostar is a city of small museums, and it’s worth having a slow walk around and visiting a few before heading to Koski Mehmed Pasina Dzamija. This is a mosque in the Old Town, which is very pretty and dates back to 1618. Head to the top, close to the minaret, for one of the most jaw-dropping views you’ll ever see.
