In 1981, the Our Lady of Medjugorje appeared to six local children on Crnica Hill in the Bijakovići hamlet. She is said to still appear every day to 3 of those children and every year to the other 3. Since the apparitions to the children of Medjugorje, it has become a place of pilgrimage for Catholics and has seen over 30 million visits.

What was Medjugorje famous for other than the Medjugorje pilgrimage? Well, Medjugorje is close to Croatian Border and was the place where 66 Franciscan friars were burned and killed by communists in the Second World War.

Additionally, the Medjugorje weather is very Mediterranean and perfect for producing wine that has won several awards. There are many wineries to visit here along the Vinske ceste or vine roads of Herzegovina on your trip to Medjugorje.
