It features a large-scale underground cruise terminal with concealed operations beneath a movable hatch system and can accommodate multiple large cruise ships simultaneously, depending on vessel size.
It is located at the entrance to the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn, providing excellent access to the city and its sights.
When berth capacity is exceeded, some cruise ships may dock at alternative piers along the Karaköy–Salıpazarı waterfront, depending on port operations and vessel size.
How To Get Around Istanbul From The Cruise Port
As it’s right in the heart of the city, you can easily get around on foot from any Galataport terminal. The trendy Istanbul neighborhoods of Galata, Karakoy, and the famous Tophane clock tower are all just a short stroll away.
Some nearby areas, such as Karaköy, Galata, and Tophane, are within walking distance, while major sightseeing areas like Sultanahmet and Taksim typically require public transport.
If you don’t want to walk, you can visit the main tourist areas like Sultanahmet, Galata, and Taksim by tram. Take the Bağcılar–Kabataş tram (T1 line) from Tophane or Karaköy stations, or travel by public bus.

Public Transport
The best way to get from the Istanbul Cruise Ship Terminal to the Istanbul Airport is by metro. The journey takes about an hour. Take the T1 tram to Kabataş or the M2 metro via a suitable transfer, then connect to the M11 metro line to Istanbul Airport.
There is no direct public transport connection from Galataport to Istanbul Airport; transfers require at least one change.
Taxi
Another option is to take a taxi. Although it’s only a 40-minute drive north of the Istanbul cruise port, we’re allowing extra time for traffic, as the city can be gridlocked in places.
It’s also best to agree on a price with the taxi driver or ask them to turn on the meter to ensure you aren’t overcharged. The journey typically costs several hundred Turkish Lira and can vary significantly depending on traffic, time of day, and route.
Private Transfer
It’s also possible to book private transfers in advance for complete peace of mind, though this will generally cost more. In my experience, taxis are reliable and friendly, but if you are not confident speaking a different language, this could be a good option.

Liman opened its doors in 1947 and was once managed by the former chef of Turkish leader Ataturk, so to say it has historical significance is an understatement. Roka
