Đulbastije - Bosnian Ground Beef Patties

Ingredients

Ground Beef Patties

  • 300 grams of ground beef (beef or any other you prefer; it works great with a combination of beef and lamb)
  • 100 grams potatoes - peeled and grated
  • 1 yellow onion - finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic - minced
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp white plain flour (plus a little more if needed to achieve nice consistency)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 3 tsp oil (possibly Extra Virgin Olive Oil)

Bechamel Sauce

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp white plain flour
  • 300 ml whole cream milk
  • 100 ml cooking cream
  • 100 grams of cheddar cheese (preferably extra strong cheddar cheese or any other yellow cheese)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cloves garlic

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 180° to 200°C
  • In a large bowl, add the ground beef add in potatoes, onion, and garlic
  • Add in the egg, and 1 tbs of flour, sprinkle in the salt and pepper to take, and mix it all well
  • Keep adding flour until you reach a nice consistency that is soft yet not too sticky
  • Heat the oil in a frypan over medium heat and add the patties. Fry each patty for 2-3 minutes from each side, making sure it is not too fried as it will lose moisture.
  • Once all patties are fried, take an oiled oven-proof dish an add the patties to the pan
  • Using the same pan where you fried patties, it is now time to make the bechamel sauce, do not wash or wipe the pan.
  • Add the butter to the pan and heat it over low to medium heat. Once melted, add finely chopped garlic and let it stir for a minute. Add flour gradually while mixing it continuously, creating a smooth paste
  • Mix it until there are no lumps in the mixture. Once the mixture is smooth and fine add milk, cooking cream, and cheese
  • Stir it for a minute or two more, and add salt and black pepper
  • Pour the hot bechamel sauce over the ground beef patties, place it in the oven and bake it for about 20 minutes at 180°C to 200°C
