Hotel Villa Dvor Omiš {Small and Friendly}

Hotel Villa Dvor is one of Croatia’s best family run hotels. Nestled between two canyons along the Cetina River, set high above a sheer marble stone cliff sits Villa Dvor in Omiš. Located 25kms south of Split along the Adriatic Coast, Villa Dvor was built in 1937 & in 2002 was fully renovated by the Ćurlin family and is now a boutique hotel.

Villa Dvor is a part of The Croatian Association of Small and Family Hotels which has more than 200 members, and was voted in the top 10 most beautiful Small and Family Hotels of Croatia four times by the association. It’s key attraction is its unique position, but the kind and professional family team can help you with your itinerary for activities in the area.

It begins with two options. Take the 100 steps up, up and up the cliff face. Or walk along a recently cleared tunnel. The tunnel leads you through what feels like a cave to a brand spanking new elevator which has also been carved through the rock. Once inside you have a spectacular view along the Cetina River thanks to glass panels which have been installed in the elevator shaft. The elevator is new, so you can ignore any reviews you’ve read where guests were complaining about a few stairs (okay, it was more than a few…)

carved into the stone to save you 100 stairs!

The rooms are clean, with simple decor, a fresh lick of paint and are a very comfortable size. The rooms each have a mini-bar and LCD TV’s, but you won’t want to watch TV as those views that extend across the Cetina River and over to the sparkling Adriatic Sea or across to the canyon are far to alluring. Either way you’ll be sure a good nights sleep as they are very comfortable.

The bathrooms are spotlessly clean, with big white fluffy towels. I am a towel snob, and I almost… I said almost snuck one home they were that great.  All of the rooms are supplied with FREE Wi-Fi, which is such a rare thing here in Croatia.

Now, not actually in your room, but accessible to you to make a reservation is the roof-top Jacuzzi. Free for hotel guests, you can even order a cocktail from the bar to sip while you soak in the tub and star out at the picturesque view. Want even more relaxation? Then ask Hotel Villa Dvor to arrange you a massage up on the rooftop – how lush!

Room tip: Book a room with a balcony, enjoying that view is worth the extra few dollars.

Service & Awards at Villa Dvor

Your stay is surrounded by the warm hospitality of the entire Curlin family who all speak perfect English. Hotel Dvor was awarded the Trip Advisor service of excellence in 2014 & also aims to be as eco friendly as possible, and holds an environmentally friendly certificate.

This family will have no problems helping you book activities. Carrying your luggage to your room, preparing special meals in their restaurant or guiding you to great local spots to visit.

Restaurant Knez

When I heard the hotel owner was the chef of the restaurant it piqued my interest. So I asked the Hotel Manager, who happens to be the Hotel Owner’s son and he told me his father is very passionate about food. Whilst his background was in business, he loved cooking so he runs the kitchen and prepares the meals for the restaurant guests while his sons look after the day to day running of the Hotel.

The first thing you notice when you walk into the restaurant are the amazing views of the Cetina River nestled between the canyon and out to the west is the Adriatic with the island of Brač on the horizon. It’s a superb backdrop and sets the mood for good dining. You have a choice to sit inside or outside on the terrace.

No matter what you chose to do while in Hotel Villa Dvor, you have to spend at least one night relaxing on the terrace at sunset.

We enjoyed all of our meals at the restaurant during our stay which were impressive. The real stand out for me was an amazing fish carpaccio. It was seasoned to perfection with the right amount of acidity. We enjoyed a grilled sea bass which was cooked to perfection and served with the yummiest of potatoes.

Restaurant Knez is well known for preparing meals using ecologically grown ingredients and using traditional recipes, some of which are 400 years old. The restaurant is open to everyone, and they accept walk-ins.

The breakfast offering is plentiful, with a good selection of pastries, fresh fruit, cereals and your usual warm selections.

To make a booking use Villa Dvor’s contact form or phone them on Tel:+385 (0) 2186 3444

Child friendly

YES! The rooms are big enough to accommodate small children, and a roll away bed. While the restaurant does not have a highchair it does good range of meals suitable for children. Plus the owner and chef will happily take a speciality order for your little people. Additionally children are allowed in the jacuzzi with adult supervision.

Keep in mind: When booking with kids that this is a small hotel, and the walls are thin. Our little guy was crying all night, and the staff sleeping up on the floor us heard him. How do we know… they told us. Oh man, I could of died of shame. (Sorry again if you are reading) That’s kids for you. Next time we stay at Hotel Villa Dvor, we will leave him at home with his Baba {Grandma}.

Sounds like a great hotel to stay at! That’s a bummer about your son being up all night :(

That tunnel entrance and an elevator sound like a really cool introduction to the hotel. It almost sounds like something out of a James Bond movie. The view is wonderful, and I think I’d want to book that jacuzzi. I will admit that I often worry about my noisy kids when we’re at hotels, so thank you for the tip about the thin walls.

  3. CarmensTravelTips says

Looks like a great place to stay. I would definitely opt for a room with a balcony to get the view. It’s nice to see that WiFi is included too. Most of the places in Europe charge an arm and a leg for WiFi. When you have teenagers it’s a must. Thanks for sharing.

This place looks amazing! I love that there is free wifi and that everyone speaks English there – would make it so much easier for me. The views are amazing and you’re right, you do need to spend a bit extra and book a balcony for that view! Sounds like you had a fantastic time.

That view is fabulous! People will get mad at me because I will probably reserve the rooftop jacuzzi 24/7 if I go ha ha 😀

  6. Phoebe Thomas says

I’d love to be in that jacuzzi right now with a cocktail in hand (or even just an ice cold Croatian beer).

  7. Corinne Vail says

SJ, One of the things I love about family-run hotels is if they have great food as well! I would definitely go to this one, just because I love eating where I’m sleeping as long as I can get real local, home-cooked food.

  8. Dave says

This looks beyond charming – very easy to picture myself with a cocktail in the rooftop hot tub! Those views of the surrounding rocks and water would make for a memorable stay.
