Travel Croatia Tours: Highlights of Croatia & Slovenia Tour
It is hard to imagine more contrasts and diversities than those with which this tour abounds: religions, scenery,gastronomy, traditions and culture, history, archeology – this tour is a true cultural mosaic. The small size of groups allow for a much closer look at many off-the-beaten-track attractions, as well as getting in touch with locals and learning about their life on a personal basis.
Highlights of Croatia Tour Itinerary
Day 1 – ZAGREB
Upon arrival at Zagreb airport transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, take a stroll with a local guide and discover the town by walking through its bustling downtown streets and visiting the Cathedral, Stone Gate, St. Mark’s Church, as well as the Upper town, Tkalčićeva street with its numerous charming cafes and restaurants and, of course, the Central Square.
Day 2 – ZAGREB-BLED- LJUBLJANA
Drive to Slovenia to the glacial lake of Bled. The beauty and the environment of the Julian Alps put Bled among the most beautiful alpine resorts. You will take an afternoon drive to Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital that maintains a relaxed atmosphere of a small central European university city. You do some sightseeing of the city with a local guide: Dragon’s, Triple, Shoemaker’s bridges old medieval castle on the hill above the city center, colorful Baroque façades, and St. Nicolas Cathedral.
Day 3 – LJUBLJANA-POSTOJNA -ISTRIA
Drive to Postojna and visit of the Postojna cave – one of the world’s largest karst monuments. A tour through the amazing passages and an incredibly diverse cave landscape by train and on foot. Drive through the Istrian interior, and see its charming hilltop villages. You stop in and visit Grožnjan and Motovun, the most famous Istrian medieval hilltop towns. Finally you will arrive at the enchanting coastal town of Rovinj.
Day 4 – ROVINJ-PULA-ROVINJ
Take a morning stroll through the narrow medieval streets of Rovinj which are lined with galleries and shops selling products from local artisans. In the afternoon we will drive to Pula, where one can admire one of the best preserved Roman amphitheaters still in existence.
Day 5 – ROVINJ-PLITVICE LAKES
Departure for Plitvice Lakes National Park, listed on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List. Upon arrival, we will be walking along beautiful crystal blue and turquoise lakes which cascade into many spectacular waterfalls. The exceptional beauty of the lakes and waterfalls, rich plant and animal life, contrasting colors, forests, and the pure mountain air is a unique experience.
Day 6 – PLITVICE LAKES- TROGIR-SPLIT
Departure to Trogir – yet another town placed on the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage sites, as one of the best preserved Romanesque Gothic towns in Central Europe. Then its a short drive to Split and a city tour, exploring its various cultural monuments including the famous Diocletian’s Palace.
Day 7 – Split-Mostar (optional)
Free day at leisure in Split or option- all day trip to Mostar located in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Upon arrival to Mostar, we will stroll through the old town with its bazaar, see the original Ottoman residential house, mosques, and the Old Bridge. Short drive to Blagaj, a town where a historical tekke (tekija or Dervish monastery) is situated at the spring of the Buna river. Return to Split in the afternoon.
Day 8 – SPLIT-STON- DUBROVNIK
Drive along the Adriatic coast toward Dubrovnik and stop in Ston, which is a small town with the longest stone city walls in Europe (5,5 km in length). The your welcome to try some of the local oysters and wine in a local restaurant. Drive to Dubrovnik. In the afternoon, we will take a walking tour with a local guide to enjoy one of the most spectacular Mediterranean medieval towns.
Day 9 – DUBROVNIK
Free time to enjoy Dubrovnik on your own or full day trip to Montenegro. We’ll be taking a scenic drive along the spectacular Kotor Bay with its numerous small settlements. First we will reach the picturesque village of Perast. Take a break in the medieval town of Kotor, surrounded by walls and fortresses, also a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, drive back to Dubrovnik.
Day 10 – DUBROVNIK DEPARTURE
- Ten days driver/guide – English or Spanish,
- All transfers per itinerary,
- 9 nights accommodation in 4* hotels on bed and breakfast basis;
- Three hotel taxes per this itinerary;
- Three all ferry tickets per itinerary;
- Licensed local guides in English or Spanish language in Zagreb, Bled, Ljubljana, Pula, Split & Dubrovnik;
- All required entrance fees per this itinerary (Bled castle, Pletna boat, Postojna caves, Pula amphitheater, Plitvice National Park, Split Cathedral and Jupiter temple, Franciscan monastery and city walls in Dubrovnik)
